Together with our partners we organized the first symposium of the Next Generation Surgical Simulation Initiative. Over 40 experts and stakeholders from Medicine, Computer Science, and Industry brainstormed and discussed about the future perspectives and pathways of Surgical Simulation. Realistic and convincings surgical simulation is a fundamental step in future medical education.

The Human-Centered Computing and Extended Reality Professorship organized the first EXPO, where students from our ARVR and Exergames course showed their great projects.

The HEX Lab is back with two awesome lectures for the upcoming wintersemester, Exergames and AR/VR.

Today we are very happy to internally kick off our new project KARVIMIO. The overall goal of KARVIMIO is the research and development of an Artificial intelligence (AI) based Augmented Reality (AR) assistance system to support the OR team in order to increase process and treatment quality and patient safety.

Daniel Roth was a guest on the New Realities Podcast. New Realities is a joint podcast project of 1E9 and the XR HUB Bayern, presenting projects, ideas, concepts and products in virtual, augmented and mixed reality. There he explained how augmented and virtual reality can be used in the healthcare sector.

Our PhD students have visited the XR-Day 2022 of the XR-Hub in Nuremberg. The XR-Hub connects innovative startups, industry and research.

On 24th of May 2022 Prof. Roth will give a keynote on future and emerging technologies that will shape healthcare and clinical practice in physical and mental health.

IDAHOBIT is the international day against homo-, bi-, inter-, and transphobia. Since 2005 it is annually celebrated on the 17th of may to raise awarenes towards the discrimination aigainst the LGBT*QIA+ community. The HEX Lab supports diversity in science and society. We stand with the LGBT*QIA+ community and against discrimination of any kind.

On 21 May 2022, the Long Night of Science will finally take place again and we will be there too. Visit us at the d.hip premises at Henkestraße 127.

From 4 to 6 April, the Extended Reality and Artificial Intelligence in Medical Applications Symposium took place for the first time at Spitzingsee.

We recently had a visit from Anja Rahn and her colleagues from the nursing directorate of the UKER. As the largest occupational group at the university hospital, the directorate of nursing is an important collaborator for us.

Vaishnavi Umesh is studying medical engineering with a focus on medical image and data processing in her master's degree. For the next three months, Vaish will support us as a student assistant in the project on automated screening and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders using virtual reality and machine learning. Vaish, we are looking forward to working with you!

We are glad that a new talent joins the team! Luisa Theelke is a specialist on applied pattern recognition in the area of digital health. Luisa is just finishing her Master Thesis at FAU and will work on Infection Prediction and Decision Support in Acute Care, investigating how new AI driven human-computer interaction interfaces can be embedded into clinical routines.

Today Sophie Jörg (https://people.cs.clemson.edu/~sjoerg/) visited us in the lab. She gave a very interesting speech in our Exergames lecture about how games can be used in VR research. Thank you very much for your visit and we are looking forward to further cooperation!

We welcome Constantin Kleinbeck to our team. Constantin will join us as PhD Candidate and work on a collaborative project in the area of mixed-reality anatomy rendering.
